The University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System and UnitedHealthcare finalized a long-term contract, AL.com reported Aug. 9.
“The UAB Health System and UnitedHealthcare have finalized a new three-year health insurance agreement, ensuring continued access to high-quality care for patients across Alabama,” the health system told the news outlet in a statement.
The health system said in June that it was at odds with the payer regarding “below-market reimbursement rates, excessive claim denials and delayed payments,” according to the report. Their contract was set to expire July 31, but the parties reached a tentative agreement hours before the deadline, extending that deal through Aug. 8 as they finalized the terms of the new agreement.
