Payers ranked by Q2 profits

The nation’s largest payers have filed their second-quarter earnings reports, revealing which companies recorded the largest profits for the three months ended June 30. 

1. UnitedHealth Group: $3.4 billion 

Total net income in the second quarter was $3.4 billion. UnitedHealthcare’s total earnings from operations were $2.1 billion. 

2. Elevance: $1.7 billion 

Total net income in Q2 was $1.7 billion. The insurance division reported a total operating income of $1.6 billion 

3. Cigna Group: $1.5 billion

Total net income in Q2 was $1.5 billion. Cigna Healthcare reported an adjusted operating income of $1.1 billion. 

4. CVS Health: $1 billion  

Total net income in Q2 was $1 billion. Aetna reported an adjusted operating income of $1.3 billion. 

5. Humana: $545 million 

Total net income in Q2 was $545 million. The company’s insurance segment reported an operating income of $766 million. 

6. Centene: $253 million loss
