About 603,000 individuals in Texas receive health coverage from the Richardson, Texas-based insurer. BCBST said it collaborated with state and federal officials to make its decision to stay in the exchange. The insurer has also requested an average premium increase of 58.4 percent on individual Affordable Care Act plans for 2017.
Three other insurers — Aetna, Scott &White Health and Oscar Health — have decided to drop or scale back their ACA exchange plans in Texas next year.
BCBST said it will release information about its 2017 plans, network and benefits as open enrollment nears in November.
