UnitedHealth exec named AHIP’s next CEO

Mike Tuffin, senior vice president of external affairs at UnitedHealth Group, will be AHIP’s next CEO.

According to a Dec. 11 news release from the trade association, Mr. Tuffin will assume the role Jan. 8. He succeeds interim CEO Julie Simon Miller, AHIP’s general counsel. 

Previous CEO Matt Eyles stepped down at the end of September. 

Mr. Tuffin has led UnitedHealth’s U.S. government relations since 2015, according to his LinkedIn profile. He previously served as AHIP’s executive vice president of communications and public affairs from 2003 to 2012. 

“As a corporate executive, association leader and consultant, Mike has demonstrated an ability to successfully lead teams, partner with key stakeholders and advance policy outcomes that are critical to the health and security of the people our industry serves,” David Holmberg, chair of AHIP’s board of directors, said in the release. “We are very pleased to welcome him back to AHIP and to have his voice leading the industry at this critical time.”
