According to a June 2 news release from BCBS Tennessee, the payer accepted a $10 million bid for its Gateway property in downtown Chattanooga.

The county plans to use the site as a public school campus.

Roy Vaughn, chief human resources officer at BCBS Tennessee, said Hamilton County “put forward a competitive bid and a bold vision for the site.”

“We are excited about the future possibilities for Gateway given our history of supporting local education,” Mr. Vaughn said.

The campus is not BCBS Tennessee’s main headquarters in the city. The payer, which has committed to permanent remote work and does not require most of its employees to work in an office, intends to keep its Chattanooga headquarters.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 17–19 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
