Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is exploring a move to a new headquarters building in downtown Newark as part of a mixed-use redevelopment project.
The insurer’s current headquarters at Penn Plaza East would be redeveloped under a two-phase plan led by NJ Transit, which owns the adjacent property. A developer would build and finance a new Horizon headquarters as part of the project, according to a Dec. 2 news release.
Horizon has been based in Newark for nearly a century. NJ Transit is accepting expressions of interest from developers through Dec. 31.
