Democratic Oklahoma state Sen. Julia Kirt is pitching a bill that would eliminate credit scores as a factor in determining health insurance premiums.
Ms. Kirt is introducing three bills targeting costs across the insurance industry, according to a Jan. 12 news release. While two of the bills address other types of insurance, the one focused on credit scores encompasses health coverage, Ms. Kirt’s office confirmed to Becker’s.
“These ideas are real solutions to a big problem many people in Oklahoma face. Our state laws should protect consumers, and these bills will do that,” Ms. Kirt said in the release.
Ms. Kirt’s news release said other states have already instituted similar policies banning credit scores.
