Across the U.S., 107 health systems — or 13 percent — offer health plans in at least one market, including commercial, Medicare Advantage or managed Medicaid. Of all states, Texas currently has 15 provider-led plans, the most of any state, according to a 2015 report from McKinsey, "Provider-led health plans: The next frontier — or the 1990s all over again?"
These 107 health systems cover about 18 million members through their system-operated health plans, amounting to approximately 8 percent of all insured U.S. lives, according to the report.
Provider-plans are present in 39 states already, and 10 more will be offered on the public exchanges in later this year. According to the report, there is substantial variation in the number of plans offered in each state.
The following list shows which states currently have provider-led plans, organized by number of plans.
