Across all age groups, the state’s uninsured rate was 6 percent in 2015, compared with the national average of 9.1 percent.

The CDC broke down West Virginia’s insurance rates further. About 59 percent of the state’s adults ages 18 to 64 had coverage from a private provider in 2015, while roughly 35 percent were covered through a public health plan. More than 175,000 West Virginians are covered by Medicaid as a result of the state’s expansion of the program under the Affordable Care Act, according to the report.
