UnitedHealthcare names CEO for Medicare and retirement business in Oklahoma, Texas

Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealthcare chose Christopher Abbott as CEO of its Medicare and retirement business in Okalahoma and Texas, D CEO Healthcare reports.

Here are five things to know about the executive move.

1. Mr. Abbott will replace Holly Steinbrecher, who held the role since 2002.

2. He will manage Medicare plans for more than 900,000 seniors and Medicare beneficiaries.

3. Mr. Abbott joined UnitedHealthcare in 2002. He most recently served as UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare and retirement CEO for Wisconsin and Michigan.

4. His other previous positions include executive director of a Wisconsin ophthalmology practice and director of operations and support services with a Milwaukee-based medical group.

5. Mr. Abbott earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland in College Park, a master’s degree at Troy (Ala.) University and a graduate certificate for health services administration at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant.
