United Physicians, Agilon Health partner to build value-based primary care system for Medicare Advantage patients

Bingham Farms, Mich.-based United Physicians and Agilon Health have entered a long-term partnership to transition United's primary care delivery system for Medicare Advantage patients to a full-risk value-based care model.

Agilon assists providers with transitioning to value-based care models, according to a May 3 press release. The Austin, Texas-based company announced a long-term partnership with Portland-based MaineHealth in March.

United Physicians represents more than 1,900 providers throughout Southeast Michigan, including 400 primary care providers. By 2023, Agilon will have 23 physician partners across 12 states and more than 2,200 primary care physicians in its peer network.

"Our partnership with Agilon Health provides us a partner with a proven track record for building a new primary care delivery system for our senior patients," United Physicians CEO Michael Williams, MD, said. "We look forward to working with Agilon to rapidly transition to this value-based model of care for Medicare Advantage, which will enable our providers to improve the patient experience and outcomes."
