State funding for the bill is linked to the passage of North Carolina’s 2023-24 state budget, which is projected to clear the Legislature between mid-June and early July, according to the report. Without a state budget, the bill would expire July 1, 2024.
Between 450,000 and 650,000 North Carolina residents would be eligible for Medicaid once expansion takes effect, according to the report.
North Carolina would become the 40th state to expand Medicaid under the ACA.
