Jose Crespo, MD, an emergency room supervisor in El Paso, Texas, is calling out the insurer for low reimbursement to providers.

“You’re putting a monetary value on someone’s life. And not only that but you’re putting a cheap value on that life,” Dr. Crespo said. “I think it’s fair that I get paid for the quality and time of my work.”

The comments from Dr. Crespo come after a Houston jury found Molina guilty last year of underpaying emergency care physicians. In the case, Molina was ordered to pay $19.1 million in damages to the physicians, according to Benefits Pro.

The report from Dolcefino Consulting, a for-profit company, also found that Molina Healthcare had errors in its list of in-network physicians. In particular, the Texas Department of Insurance received more than 5,000 reports of errors in Molina’s list of in-network physicians, according to the report.
