As part of the transition, Colorado Choice will convert to a for-profit insurer. While Colorado Choice will continue operating from its Alamosa location, it plans to add staff and expand its operations outside the San Luis Valley area, pending state approval.

In addition to the transaction, Melody Health Insurance changed its name to Friday Health Plans to signify “a new day in health insurance with an individual, service-oriented focus.” Colorado Choice will change its name to Friday Health Plans for 2018 policies.

The acquisition was financed through equity and debt.
