CMS requests pitches to overhaul Medicare claims processing

CMS is moving to replace four legacy Medicare claims platforms. Now, it is seeking a vendor to design one platform that would assume all four systems’ responsibilities.

In a Jan. 8 request for information, CMS said the new platform — ClaimsCore — will unify the capabilities of the Multi-Carrier System, Fiscal Intermediary Shared System, ViPS Medicare System and Common Working File. CMS will acquire a “commercial-off-the-shelf” resource with speedy adjudication, real-time fraud protection and transparent interoperability to process future Medicare fee-for-service claims.

The vendor would execute a proof of concept in the fall. The contract could run through November 2033, but CMS would not have to exercise all option years.

All contracted work must occur in the United States — unless granted an exception — and abide by strict conflict-of-interest parameters.

Vendors have until Jan. 23 to submit their offers.
