Louisville, Ky.-based Baptist Health plans to shut down its health plan operation in 2018, according to the Louisville Business First.
The move will affect 34 employees, who will be laid off Dec. 29. The health system said it will provide outplacement assistance and severance pay to affected employees.
Contracts for the health plan's four lines of business — fully insured employer groups, self-funded employer groups, Medicare Advantage plans and network access lease plans — will expire by Nov. 30, 2018. Baptist Health will retain 70 employees to handle claims for health plan members in Kentucky, southern Indiana and Tennessee, according to the report.
