UnitedHealthcare has sent out “notice of termination” mailings to its policyholders informing them to stop seeking care from IU Health unless they’re prepared to face out-of-network rates, according to the report. Meanwhile, IU Health has sent a letter to employers saying the insurer and health system have made limited progress in negotiations, and UnitedHealthcare has been unwilling to consider temporary extensions of the payer-provider contract, which expired Dec. 31.

IU Health has continued to bill UnitedHealthcare patients at in-network rates, according to the report. The conflict affects as many as 400,000 Indiana residents.
