Georgia health plan offers employees $150 Walmart gift cards for meeting wellness goals

Georgia's health insurance plan is rewarding state employees for hitting health and wellness targets, according to Georgia Health News.

Three things to know:

1. Georgia's State Health Benefit Plan insures more than 660,000 state employees, including teachers, school personnel, retirees and dependents.

2. In 2019, one of its wellness plans, launched by digital health company Sharecare, will reward members who meet goals with a $150 Walmart gift card. Walmart will also give eligible members another $75 to use on prescription medications and vision supplies. Another Sharecare-administered plan offers members a $150 Visa gift card for hitting wellness targets.

3. Nationally, 85 percent of large employers are offering wellness programs in conjunction with health insurance plans to encourage healthy habits like smoking cessation and weight loss, according to Kaiser Family Foundation data cited by Georgia Health News.
