Enrollees in ACA marketplace plans hit record highs in 2022; off-marketplace enrollment decreased

Enrollees in ACA marketplace plans hit record highs in 2022, a Kaiser Family Foundation analysis published Oct. 17 found. 

As the number of individuals in marketplace plans increases, fewer are enrolled in off-marketplace, non-ACA-compliant plans. 

Enhanced subsidies from the American Rescue Plan drove more individuals in non-marketplace plans to enroll on the marketplace and increased overall individual insurance market enrollees by nearly 3 million from 2020. 

Kaiser Family Foundation analysts wrote they predict around 3 million people will enroll in non-ACA-compliant plans, including grandfathered and short-term plans, for 2023.
