Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and UnitedHealth had been fighting over their use of the term “HPN.” Blue Cross Blue Shield Association uses “HPN” as shorthand for “high-performance network,” and UnitedHealth uses it for “Health Plan of Nevada.”
In April 2020, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association filed a preemptive lawsuit against UnitedHealth, claiming that UnitedHealth had threatened litigation over the acronym use.
On June 16, the organizations asked a district judge in Minnesota to sign off on a confidential settlement agreement to end the dispute. Terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed.
