Here are eight big employers to watch in direct contracting:
- Walmart: The retailer is partnered with 17 health systems through its Centers of Excellence program. Spanning across the country, each system is vetted with public data, individualized research and on-site visits.
- Tyson: On April 28, Tyson Foods opened its first medical clinic near one of its seven production centers. With credit to a partnership with Marathon Health, the company plans to serve 38,000 employees and their families as it opens more clinics near the remaining six facilities throughout the summer.
- Best Buy: Through a partnership with Kaiser Permanente since 2019, Best Buy has continued to develop healthcare for its employees. The initial partnership developed Lively Mobile Plus, a remote health monitoring tool for employees, which has further grown to serve Kaiser Permanente Medicare members.
- General Motors: Employees at General Motors have three options for insurance following a partnership with Henry Ford Health System in 2018. Services began in 2019 with premiums upward of $300 lower than the lowest-cost option. The aim is to focus on value-based approaches to healthcare, according to The Detroit News.
- Whole Foods: In January, Whole Foods partnered with Northwell Direct to offer New York employees care without deductibles or copays. The agreement primarily focuses on preventive care, including fitness, health coaching and managing stress.
Cisco/Google/Intel: The three corporations have been long-standing partners with Palo Alto, Calif.-based Stanford Health and its health alliance. When Cisco first joined the plan, the company said rates were 10 percent lower than conventional coverage.
