The Arkansas State Department of Human Services said 4,574 Medicaid beneficiaries lost their health insurance Sept. 1 after failing to comply with the program's work requirements for three months, according to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.
Affected enrollees had until Sept. 5 to report their required 80 hours of work or another qualifying activity to the state department, or face being locked out of Arkansas' Medicaid program for the rest of the year.
However, the Human Services Department decided to push back the Sept. 5 deadline to Oct. 5 for enrollees who were unable to access the website. A computer issue affected several state agencies, according to the report.
Work requirements for Medicaid beneficiaries between the ages of 30 and 49 took effect for an initial group of members June 1 and will be rolled out within that subgroup through September. Beneficiaries between the ages of 19 and 29 will face work requirements in 2019 unless they can prove exemption status.
