2,000 BCBS Michigan beneficiaries may have another member's bill

About 2,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan beneficiaries may have someone else's January premium bill, NBC affiliate WDIV reported Jan. 31.

BCBS Michigan said the issue was caused by an error at one of its print vendors, according to the report. The issue affected Medicare Advantage members with Prescription Blue SM PDP prescription drug plan coverage.

The bills may have included someone else's information, but they did not contain banking or credit card information, according to the report. The insurer apologized for the issue and said it was conducting an investigation.

BCBS Michigan said it has mailed corrected billing statements to affected members, along with a postage-paid envelope for them to return the incorrect bill, according to the report. If affected beneficiaries fall into delinquency or disenrollment in February, they will receive a 30-day grace period to pay their bill.
