Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente and Reno, Nev.-based Renown Health have finalized a joint venture to launch a new outpatient care delivery system and co-own a health plan in northern Nevada.
Five things to know:
1. Hometown Health, the health plan previously owned by Renown, is now jointly owned by Kaiser Permanente, according to a Feb. 3 news release from the health systems. New health plan options are in development and more information will be shared ahead of the fall 2026 open-enrollment period.
2. The joint venture, first announced in September, marks Kaiser’s entry into Nevada and advances the organization’s value-based care strategy in the U.S.
3. Kaiser will operate the existing Del Monte Lane medical offices in Reno and open two more facilities in 2026. Each location will offer primary and specialty care, a lab and general radiology. In 2027, Kaiser-owned retail pharmacies will be available in addition to Renown Pharmacy. Kaiser Permanente members will also have access to Renown services, including emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and surgical care. Kaiser’s full digital health platform will be available to members in 2027.
4. The systems also appointed a leadership team for the joint venture.
- Trish Rodriguez will serve as regional president and will lead overall market success in Nevada. She most recently served as Kaiser’s senior vice president of continuum operations and clinical services in Northern California.
- Mark Roberts, MD, will serve as executive medical director, overseeing clinical care operations for Nevada members. He most recently served as assistant physician-in-chief for The Permanente Medical Group at Kaiser Permanente Roseville (Calif.).
- Bethany Sexton will serve as health plan leader. She previously served as CEO of Hometown Health and chief transformation officer at Renown. She will establish and grow the new Kaiser Permanente Health plan in northern Nevada.
5. “This joint venture is about meeting the evolving needs of our community and providing more choices for patients and employers in a growing region,” Renown CEO Brian Erling, MD, said in the release. “Renown Health’s deep roots in northern Nevada, combined with Kaiser Permanente’s national leadership in care and coverage, will help us deliver on our shared mission to make high-quality care more accessible and affordable for all.”
