Yelp became the latest company to announce their new policy April 12, where employees’ travel receipts will be submitted directly to insurance for reimbursement. Yelp has over 4,000 employees and 200 in Texas, where all abortion services are currently banned after six weeks of pregnancy.
Yelp follows other corporations such as Citigroup, which will also cover travel expenses for employees in restrictive states who must travel to receive an abortion. Citigroup has 8,500 employees in Texas, according to CNBC.
Apple said last year that its health insurance provider is also going to be covering travel and medical costs for employees who get an abortion.
Other corporations have gone a different route. Lyft and Uber offered to pay the legal fees of drivers sued for aiding or abetting an abortion under the Texas law, and dating sites Bumble and Match Group created relief funds for people seeking abortions in the state.
Salesforce took it a step further and offered to relocate employees who live in states with abortion bans.
