The following New Jersey hospitals have the highest share of patients who qualify as charity care or Medicaid, according to NJ Spotlight.

NJ Spotlight recently compiled the list using 2013 state charge data. Here are the top 10 hospitals in New Jersey with the most challenging payer mix, ranked from greatest to least share of charity care or Medicaid patients.

1. Bergen Regional Medical Center, Paramus: 67.1 percent charity care or Medicaid.

2. University Hospital, Newark: 50.4 percent

3. St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, Paterson: 44.4 percent

4. Jersey City Medical Center: 44.3 percent

5. Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Elizabeth: 40 percent

6. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center: 39 percent

7. CarePoint Hoboken University Medical Center: 36.8 percent

8. East Orange General Hospital: 34.6 percent

9. CarePoint Christ Hospital, Jersey City: 34.4 percent

10. Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Trenton: 33.9 percent
