Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin (R) submitted an amended plan to impose stricter work requirements than initially requested for Medicaid recipients, according to The Hill.

The altered plan, which must gain approval by the Trump administration, would require able-bodied adults without dependents to immediately work 20 hours per week to attain Medicaid coverage. The original proposal had a phase-in period where Medicaid beneficiaries would work five hours to start, gradually increasing to 20 hours in a year, according to the report.

The goal of the new proposal is to decrease the cost of the state Medicaid program, and according to Mr. Bevin, the changes could save Kentucky $2.4 billion over the next five years.

Negotiations between Mr. Bevin’s administration and the Trump administration are ongoing, but the Trump administration is expected to authorize the changes, according to the report.
