The bill, introduced Aug. 2 by Sens. Bill Cassidy, MD, and Tom Carper, would eliminate restrictions that prevent providers from billing for multiple services for Medicaid members on the same day or visit.
According to a news release from Dr. Cassidy, 27 states have laws that allow same-day billing for children on Medicaid.
David Merritt, the BCBS Association’s senior vice president of policy and advocacy, said the legislation would increase access to comprehensive care.
“Everyone should have access to fully integrated and coordinated healthcare, but some restrictions in Medicaid and CHIP get in the way, making it harder for patients to receive the care they need. We applaud Senators Carper and Cassidy for introducing legislation to eliminate same-day billing restrictions which currently prohibit a patient from addressing multiple health needs in a single visit or on the same day,” Mr. Merritt said in the news release.
