With $10M infusion BCBS, Texas A&M partner to improve rural healthcare

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, in partnership with College Station-based Texas A&M University Health Science Center, will launch a project aimed at improving rural healthcare.

BCBS donated $10 million to health science center, which will focus on identifying and implementing solutions to the unique challenges rural communities face in regards to healthcare.  The project will support initiatives that improve access to healthcare and reduce disparities.

The research and innovative care delivery strategies that emanate from this collaboration with Texas A&M Health Science Center have potential to not only help rural communities in Texas, but across the nation," said Dan McCoy, MD, president of BCBS-Texas. "As someone who grew up in a small town in Texas, I understand and appreciate both the challenges and the healthcare needs of those in rural communities."

The health science center was formed in 1999. The center's rural and community health institute will lead the initiative.
