WellCare to sell Medicaid plans to Anthem as Centene deal nears

WellCare Health Plans will sell its Medicaid business in Missouri and Nebraska to Anthem.

The sale comes amid WellCare's impending sale to Centene Corp. Under WellCare's sale, Anthem will acquire about 300,000 Medicaid members.

Centene's acquisition of WellCare is set to close in the first half of 2020. Once the organizations receive all regulatory approvals and close their transaction, the merged entity will become one of the biggest providers of government insurance in the nation, covering more than 22 million members across 50 states.
