Walmart's expanded telehealth pilot, announced in October, will use services owned by UnitedHealth Group, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
Under the pilot, Walmart employees in Colorado, Minnesota and Wisconsin will be able to use telehealth services for a $4 copay. The pilot will link employees to a virtual primary care physician to manage chronic conditions.
The pilot is in collaboration with Walmart's telehealth partner Doctor On Demand, and HealthScope Benefits, which UnitedHealth recently acquired. UnitedHealth's insurance arm and its HealthScope Benefits subsidiary will administer the telehealth pilot for Walmart.
The pilot launches Jan. 1, and Walmart has plans to scale it to other markets. The telehealth pilot is part of several healthcare initiatives Walmart announced in October, including featured providers, personal healthcare assistants and Centers of Excellence programs.
