Value-based care saved members 245,000 days in the hospital, Humana report says

Medicare Advantage members who frequented providers with value-based care arrangements spent significantly less time in a hospital than non-value-based members.

In its annual Value-based Care Report for 2021, Humana found that Medicare Advantage members who sought value-based care were 7 percent less likely to have a costly hospital admission and 12 percent less likely to have an emergency room visit, according to a Nov. 16 news release

The report found that value-based care arrangements resulted in 245,000 fewer days in the hospital.

It also found that the arrangements saved $3.1 billion, or 13.4 percent, compared to traditional Medicare.

About 67 percent of Humana's individual Medicare Advantage members frequent a physician with a value-based care arrangement, according to the report.
