UnitedHealth to exit Illinois' ACA exchange

As of 2017, UnitedHealthcare will no longer offer coverage on Illinois' Affordable Care Act marketplace, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Just yesterday, the health insurance giant said it will leave California's ACA exchanges next year. UnitedHealthcare also plans to drop coverage in New Jersey, Arkansas, Georgia, Michigan, Connecticut, Iowa, Maryland and Indiana.

The 22,000 individual UnitedHealthcare enrollees in Illinois will have their benefits until the end of 2016. The change will not affect Medicare enrollees or those in the group insurance business, according to the report.

However, UnitedHealthcare's Harken Health subsidiary will continue to stay on the ACA exchanges in Illinois and Georgia in 2017.
