UnitedHealth Group plans to tie $75 billion of its payments to value-based care contracts by the end of 2020, up from $64 billion in 2017, according to the insurer's annual report on value-based care progress.
UnitedHealth's report is based on data from 110,000 physicians and 1,100 hospitals holding a value-based agreement with the insurer.
Here are four findings from the report.
1. Fifteen million members under the firm's insurance arm, UnitedHealthcare, sought care from providers with value-based care contracts in 2017.
2. UnitedHealth paid $90 million in bonuses to Medicare physicians who improved quality metrics in 2017.
3. UnitedHealth has 800 ACO partnerships, and projects 250,000-plus people will enroll in its NexusACO by the end of 2019. NexusACO is a Next Generation ACO.
4. In the past year, 20 percent of providers in UnitedHealth's Medicare ACOs took on more risk.
