U of Arkansas graduate program named after retired BCBS executive

A new master's program at the Fayetteville-based University of Arkansas has been named after former Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield CEO Robert Shoptaw.

The Robert L. Shoptaw Master of Healthcare Business Analytics Program will launch next fall, according to a Sept. 28 university news release.

Arkansas BCBS provided funding for the program. The program is designed to help business and healthcare industry professionals "transform massive amounts of data into smart, analytical decisions," said Matt Waller, dean of the university's College of Business.

Mr. Shoptaw served as Arkansas BCBS CEO from 1994 until he retired in 2008, according to the release. He served as chair of the payer's board from 2009 to 2016.
