Stanford, Lucile Packard hospitals out of network with Anthem

Stanford (Calif.) Health Care and its Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif., are no longer in network for Anthem members after negotiations to renew their contract failed.

A contract between the organizations expired Sept. 1, Stanford Health confirmed with Becker's. Stanford Health has decided to honor in-network rates for Anthem members while it continues negotiating with the health insurer.

"Stanford Health Care and Stanford Children's Health continue to work diligently to replace the expired contract with Anthem," Gary May, vice president of managed care and payer relations for the hospitals, told Becker's in an emailed statement. "As we work to resolve this matter as soon as possible, our goal is to provide continuity of care and certainty to our Anthem-member patients that their access to Stanford's care will not be jeopardized."

In a statement to the Palo Alto Daily Post, an Anthem spokesperson said Stanford Health ended the contract after the insurer refused to agree to rate increases.
