Piedmont, UnitedHealthcare fail to reach contract agreement

Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare facilities are out-of-network for UnitedHealthcare commercial policyholders effective July 1, reports Atlanta Business Chronicle.

The network change does not affect United's Medicare, Medicare Supplemental or Medicare Advantage plan members, Piedmont said in a prepared statement.

UnitedHealthcare blamed the contract termination on reimbursement disagreements.

"We offered Piedmont fair and competitive rate increases that would ensure their hospitals and physicians are paid appropriately for the important services they provide," United said in a prepared statement. "But the health system wanted significantly higher rate increases for the next three years without committing to performance measures that emphasize quality care, paying for improved health outcomes and lower costs."
