Calling the system failure “an emergency that’s nowhere near being stabilized,” Mr. Goodwin said his office has received more than 3,000 calls and upwards of 850 complaints from BCBS of N.C. customers.
“People can’t get their surgeries scheduled, can’t get their MRIs scheduled, they can’t get their cancer treatments,” he said, according to the report. “My team is stretched thin.”
However, Mr. Goodwin said it’s too soon to discuss sanctions against BCBS of N.C. “It is too early to say whether there will be any consequences, because first and foremost we must solve the problems,” he said.
BCBS of N.C. said in a statement that it is “working diligently to resolve these issues as quickly as possible in collaboration with the Department of Insurance,” according to the report.
