Meet the 1st UnitedHealthcare Professor of Healthcare Management

UnitedHealthcare, the insurance arm of UnitedHealth Group, endowed $2.5 million to the University of Michigan School of Public Health in Lansing to establish the UnitedHealthcare Professor of Healthcare Management.

Andrew Ryan, PhD, is the inaugural recipient of the professorship. UnitedHealthcare's endowment will fund Dr. Ryan's salary and a discretionary fund for future health policy research.

Dr. Ryan is the director of the Center for Evaluating Health Reform and the co-director of the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy at the University of Michigan. His primary research focus is value-based payment models, examining what makes the models succeed or fail, and which models best suit clinicians and providers.

UnitedHealthcare and the university said the endowment "aligns with UnitedHealthcare's continued collaboration with care providers in moving to a value-based healthcare system."
