Medicare Advantage growth among biggest for-profit payers in Q4

Three of the five largest for-profit payers saw double-digit growth in their Medicare Advantage membership in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2019.

Here's how CVS Health-owned Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, Humana and UnitedHealth Group's UnitedHealthcare stacked up, according to recent financial documents:

Payers are listed in order of greatest year-over-year Medicare Advantage enrollment growth as of Dec. 31, 2019.

1. Aetna
Medicare Advantage membership: 2.3 million
Percent change year over year: 32 percent

2. Anthem
Medicare Advantage members: 1.2 million
Percent change year over year: 20.7 percent

3. Humana
Medicare Advantage membership: 4.1 million
Percent change year over year: 15.5 percent

4. UnitedHealthcare
Medicare Advantage membership: 5.3 million
Percent change year over year: 6.6 percent

5. Cigna
Medicare Advantage membership: 444,000
Percent change year over year: 2 percent
