Humana shakes up leadership team: 4 things to know

Humana hired a new chief strategy and corporate development officer and integrated its care delivery organization into its finance department, the company said Dec. 4.

Here are four things to know:

1. Humana appointed Vishal Agrawal, MD, as chief strategy and corporate development officer. In his new role, which is effective Dec. 10, Dr. Agrawal will oversee merger, acquisition and joint venture activities for the health insurer.

2. Dr. Agrawal joins Humana from The Carlyle Group, a Washington, D.C.-based financial services and investment firm, where he served as senior adviser.

3. He succeeds Christopher Hunter, who recently took on a lead role for Humana's group, specialty and military businesses. Mr. Hunter succeeds Beth Bierbower, who will head up Humana's senior healthcare experience efforts for the company's Humana Studio H IT hub in Boston.

4. In addition, under the leadership of Humana's CFO Brian Kane, the health insurer will move its care delivery business under its finance department.

"An important part of Humana's integrated care delivery strategy involves expanding clinical capabilities with a commitment to providing care delivery solutions to serve the members of many different payers," the company said of the realignment.
