In January, Oscar will begin sending each of its members a Misfit Flash device — a fitness tracker that measures physical activity and sleep and can be synced with smartphones. Each member will be given a daily step goal based on their physical activity history, and each day a goal is met equals a $1 credit. Members can redeem the credit for an Amazon gift card once their account reaches a minimum of $20, according to the report.
Along with receiving rewards, members can use the data to track their physical history with their physician by using their Oscar account, Misfit and the mobile application Oscar has developed for this initiative.
Oscar has already had success providing incentives to members to take action. In November, the company started paying $20 to members who got a flu shot, and in the five weeks since that program was implemented the number of Oscar members who have gotten flu shots has more than doubled, according to the report.
