The House voted 242-174 Friday to reauthorize funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program through 2022, after letting it expire in September.
House approval comes at the eleventh hour: CHIP provides healthcare coverage for more than 8.9 million children, and money was set to run out in some states in November. In addition to reauthorizing CHIP funding, the bill, called the Community Health and Medical Professionals Improve Our Nation Act, extends funding for community health centers and graduate medical education programs through 2019. It also adds $25 million in funding for health centers participating in the All of Us Research Program under the Precision Medicine Initiative.
The bill garnered just 15 votes of support from Democrats, many of whom opposed offsets that would reduce the grace period for ACA enrollees who missed a premium payment and increase premiums for high-earning Medicare enrollees.
The bill will now move to the Senate.
