Highmark, AmeriHealth Caritas win bid to manage Delaware's Medicaid program

The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services chose Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and AmeriHealth Caritas to operate its Medicaid managed care program.

The decision discontinues DHSS' managed care partnership with Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealthcare Dec. 31.

"We appreciate the partnership we have shared with UnitedHealthcare and the quality services it has provided our members," Medicaid Director Steve Groff said. "We look forward to working with Highmark and AmeriHealth to smoothly transition the UnitedHealthcare membership."

DHSS' partnership with Pittsburgh-based Highmark began in 2015. AmeriHealth Caritas in Philadelphia will join the program Jan. 1. The insurers will cover approximately 200,000 Medicaid members in Delaware.
