HealthPartners UnityPoint to offer Medicare Advantage plans

Des Moines, Iowa-based HealthPartners UnityPoint Health is looking to sell Medicare Advantage plans in Iowa and Illinois.

Pending regulatory approval,  the system will offer Medicare Advantage plans in select counties in Iowa and western Illinois starting Oct. 15, which is Medicare's open enrollment start date. Plans will consolidate medical benefits and prescription drug coverage and aim to decrease out-of-pocket costs.

HealthPartners UnityPoint Health, which serves more than 1.5 million, launched a campaign to spread awareness about the plans. The campaign will run jointly with Medicare's open enrollment period, from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.

"There are benefits to having healthcare and medical insurance all in one place. This is why we've brought together the trusted care of UnityPoint Health, with the proven benefit coverage of HealthPartners," Troy Caraway, UnityPoint Health senior vice president of the insurance division, said in a provided statement.

If approved, coverage would begin Jan. 1.
