HCSC unveils big push to get uninsured Americans covered

Health Care Service Corp., the parent company of several Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, launched a campaign Oct. 29 to help uninsured or underinsured Americans access coverage.

The Be Covered campaign aims to decrease the number of Americans who don't have health insurance or are underinsured. HCSC plans to decrease uninsured rates by working with community partners like schools and churches to educate individuals, offer free wellness screenings and help those eligible for coverage sign up.

The campaign will focus on five states: Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. HCSC said within those five states, almost 7 million people are uninsured, but more than 60 percent qualify for Medicaid or can get federal insurance subsidies.
