Fitch: Strong operating performance ahead for insurers in 2020

Health insurers are on track to continue seeing solid results in 2020, according to the ratings agency Fitch Ratings.

The health insurance industry currently has a stable outlook, but Fitch noted that progress in post-merger integration for giants like CVS Health-Aetna and Cigna-Express Scripts could result in additional positive rating outlooks next year.

However, the potential for future major consolidation in the industry will be significantly reduced in 2020, according to Fitch, as consolidation activity will focus more on building out care delivery platforms.

Fitch also noted while healthcare will be a talking point for candidates in the 2020 presidential election, the ratings agency doesn't expect a significant change in the U.S. healthcare structure.
