Pennsylvania saw an 11.4 percent increase in the number of children enrolled in the Children's Health Insurance Program over the past year, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
State officials said enrollment increased from 150,985 in December 2015 to 168,238 in November of this year. Last year Gov. Tom Wolf (D-Pa.) signed a bill allowing CHIP to be moved from the Department of Insurance to the Department of Human Services to cut costs and streamline enrollment.
Once IT systems are completely consolidated in 2018, state officials said an estimated $3.5 million will be saved because of the transition, according to the report.
