Here are five things to know:
1. Mr. Pieninck has served as CareFirst’s COO since April 2017.
2. Prior to his COO promotion, Mr. Pieninck was executive vice president of the company’s large group strategic business unit.
3. His previous experience includes working at Aetna, where he rose through the ranks to become president of the Americas for Aetna International.
4. Mr. Pieninck is a member of the boards of Special Olympics Maryland and the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore.
5. He succeeds Chet Burrell, who will retire June 30.
