California's governor signed legislation that will make the state the first in the nation to provide health coverage to some undocumented adults, according to USA Today.
Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the law July 9. The $98 million legislation aims to cover about 100,000 undocumented immigrants age 19 to 25 who are eligible for California's Medicaid program, Medi-Cal.
Mr. Newsom plans to fund the coverage expansion by restoring the ACA's individual mandate. Under the mandate, California residents without insurance could face a state tax penalty.
President Donald Trump recently spoke out against the legislation, calling the law "unfair" July 1.
